About Therapy

So... where do I begin?

If you’re reading this, you’ve taken a first big step by being here and realizing you want to make a change- even if you’re not sure how or even what that change is. The next step is often to reach out to a professional who you feel some connection with and that offers treatment methods that resonate with you and your needs. If you are feeling a hunch that you may like to meet with me, I welcome you to call to inquire about setting up an appointment.

What should I expect?

In the first session, the focus is often on gathering information. I’ll speak with you about the current stressors and symptoms that bring you to therapy today, as well as exploring historical information about your past physical, mental, and emotional health. We will work together to identify your strengths, needs, and values to begin the collaborative effort of setting treatment goals. It is my objective for you to meet your goals, gain insight and skills that will help you to function better in needed areas, and be able to use this growth moving forward to navigate future stressors as they arise.

I recognize that in addition to your therapist having the competencies and skills to treat, there has to be a positive feel and fit for the therapist you are working with, as this is vital to success in therapy. I am happy to make myself available for a brief phone call to answer any pressing questions prior to scheduling. Anything beyond this, I encourage you to schedule an appointment to explore your needs and fit.
